deadpan (adjective); impassive or expressionless, marked by an impassive matter-of-fact manner, style or expression
So often the sea or seascape is aligned with a form of romanticism and expressionism, with atmospheric effects at the heart of its depiction. However, my aim with this series of seascapes (20 in total) has been to document the flatness, the ‘plainness’, of the open sea and highlight the constancy of the horizon line. The repetition is the means with which I attempt to express the vastness of space available in an open seascape and try to elongate time, slow down the viewing experience and draw attention to the gaze.
