Between 2012-2017 Laura has participated in numerous hands-on human dissection workshops with the American somonaut (explorer of the interior), Gil Hedley. Her original motivation for enrolling on these courses was to gain a more direct, visual, and tactile explanation for, and consolidation of, her supporting work as a Massage and Bowen therapist. Unexpectedly, the experience inspired Laura equally, if not more, at an artistic level and led to this series of soft sculptures. This forage into the world of three dimensions has become the means with which she can explore the relationship between form (in this case the body part) and its armature (the framework that supports and integrates form) as well as the interface between touch and sight and the haptic and the visceral.
This project is ongoing and new sculptures will be added to this page as and when they are complete.
