This series of seascapes, (20 in total), is Laura’s latest, long term project. So often the sea or seascape is aligned with a form of romanticism and expressionism, with atmospheric effects at the heart of its depiction. Laura’s aim, on the other hand, has been to document the flatness, the ‘plainness’, of the open sea and highlight the sharp distinction between the quality of sky and water. The repetition is the means with which she enhances the documentary approach to the motif and embeds it within a temporal framework.
